Kenneth Dale “Monk” Stephens, 75, of Evergreen, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 4th, surrounded by his family in his home.
“Monk” is preceded in death by his parents, James Prinice and Foneva Stephens; his wife, Patsy K. Stephens; brothers, Jimmy and William Stephens; and sisters, Brenda Stephens Pittman and Betty Sue Wilkerson.
He is survived by two daughters, Paula Stephens Grainger (Jimmy) and Penny Stephens Reynolds (Chris) both of Evergreen; brother-in-law, Terry Wilkerson of Seaford, Delaware; two sisters-in-law, Helen and Frieda Stephens, both of Lumberton; seven grandchildren, Nicole Woodard, James Hudson, Christopher Reynolds, Arter “Little Junior” Sullivan, Justin Sullivan, Jackie Sullivan and Liam Grainger and six great-grandchildren, Nicholas Woodard, Justin Sullivan Jr., Adalyn Hunt, Harper Sullivan, Cole Hudson and Lucas Sullivan.
Before relocating to Evergreen in August of this year, Monk was a resident of the Long Branch community and a member of Long Branch Baptist Church. Known as “Zippy” for riding his scooter, Monk will always be remembered as someone who loved going hunting and fishing and for his love of racing.
The family would like to give special recognition and gratitude to the caretakers of Gentiva Hospice for their outstanding service to Monk; Jackie Patterson, Annie Snowten, Alicia Marlow, Kayla Hoover, Erin Stone, Tara Kennedy, Gracelyn Fonvielle and Pastor Rick Weidman.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 7, 2025 from 2:00 – 3:00 pm in the cemetery prior to the service. There will be a graveside service Sunday, December 7, 2025 at 3:00 pm in Meadowbrook Cemetery, Pastor Jeff Broadwell officiating. After the service, the family will continue to receive friends at the home of Paula Grainger, 1110 Mangum Rd. in Evergreen.
