Lake Waccamaw Town Hall had new faces and closed out old business at Tuesday night’s December meeting. Matt Wilson handed over the reins to Mayor Greg Jacobs after he and the other new board members were sworn in by Clerk of Court Jess Hill. Lynn Hinnant and Curtis Andrews were warmly welcomed by commissioners Karl Bracey and Terry Littrell as they took their seats.

Littrell will remain Mayor Pro Tem and was voted delegate for the Cape Fear Council of Governments (COG) during the board’s first motion. Hinnant was named alternate delegate for the COG.

“My promise is simple,” said Jacobs in his opening speech. “I will show up, be accountable, and I will work every day to keep this town moving forward.”

Before Wilson passed the torch, the budget for this fiscal year was amended to include necessary adjustments and to start the new board off on a clean slate. The purchase of an ambulance for the Lake Waccamaw Fire and Rescue Department, modifications to the water and sewer fund for chemical testing at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, and insurance premiums prompted the changes.
Last weekend was a wash out for Christmas activities at the Lake, but the celebration has been rescheduled for this week.
“Lake Waccamaw has rescheduled the candle walk for this Thursday, Dec. 11, at 5:30 p.m., and the parade will be this Saturday, Dec. 13, at 10 a.m. with the lineup beginning at 9 a.m.” said Town Clerk Meredith Parker in an email.
No applications or fees are necessary, and those who would like to participate are asked to just show up. The procession will begin at Elizabeth Brinkley Park.
