Tabor Talk for Dec. 3

By Diane Nobles Ward

Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce

Thank you to all businesses that  participated in the inaugural Fall Crawl to Shop Our Stores on Small Business Saturday, which was  this past Saturday.

Our first year was a success.  Congratulations to Kathy Holton for winning the fruit basket filled with $250 plus of gift cards, etc.  She will enjoy going back to those businesses to shop some more.

The Third Annual Christmas Crafts Fair was also a great event this past Saturday.  We had 11 booths set up, with 8 of those being craft vendors and the other three were food related vendors.

Are y’all ready for the rest of the festivities leading up to Christmas?

On tap is the opening day of the Town of Tabor City’s Inaugural 12 Days of Christmas.  Most of you have probably heard the exciting news of a synthetic ice skating rink at the Garrell Depot.  That begins Thursday afternoon!

At 6:15 p.m. Thursday, the 33rd Annual Christmas Parade Through the Lights steps off.  We hear that it just may be even larger than last year.  The Town of Tabor City does a phenomenal job with this endeavor.  They are the best!

Should you have any question on either of the above events, please contact Dianne Nobles Ward, Tabor City Promotions Director, at the Tabor City Visitor Center, 910.653.4141.  Be sure to say thanks to the Town as well for the beautiful and festive Christmas decorations. That caboose looks awesome!

We look forward to seeing you all at the Town Gate, after the parade, for the Annual Tabor City Community Christmas Tree Lighting, which is brought to you by the Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce.

For 25 years, we have been lighting the Living Christmas Tree, which was donated by the Tabor City Garden Club, aka the Dirt Daubers.  It’s always so pretty when the lights are all aglow.

Santa Claus rides a TC Fire Department truck, then makes his way over to his workshop to visit with the children and hear their wishlists.  This year, Mrs. Claus will join him.  There will be a few snow flurries over that way for the kids to enjoy.

Warm chili and hot cocoa will be available for purchase at the Chamber’s concessions tent.  We have a co-sponsor this year – thank you Liberty Hospice.

Friday, Dec. 5, from 3:30 to 6:30, is the Fifth Annual Cookie Crawl.  This has quickly grown and has become a holiday favorite.  There will be Christmas music playing from the Town Gazebo and more snow flurries.

Stop by the library to purchase your cookie box and get your list of cookie stops at the participating businesses.  There are 22 stops this year.  Be sure to grab a free hot dog while you’re near the library.

To wrap up the Chamber’s Holiday Events will be the judging of the Trim A Tree Decorating Contest on Tuesday, Dec. 9, beginning at 5:30 p.m.  To enter the contest, don’t forget to call us at 910.840.0292 by 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8. The contest is open to businesses and residential citizens within the city limits.

“Remember, Jesus is the Reason for the Season.”

Feel free to call should you need us.  Tuesday-Thursday, 9:30-2:30.  910.377.3012 or 910.840.0292

Our office will be closed the weeks of Dec. 8 (vacation), Dec. 22, and Dec. 29 (holidays). We will be back to regular operating days and hours beginning Jan. 6, 2026.
