Tabor Talk for Dec. 30

By Cynthia Nelson

Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce

Wow!  Another year has just breezed on by.  It seems like we were just ringing in 2025 and now it’s time to ring in year 2026

First, we’d like to share some information for our Town Government. Wednesday is the Town of Tabor City’s inaugural New Year’s Eve Yam Drop.  Be sure to stop by the Garrell Depot from 6-8pm for entertainment, food, and fun as the evening gears up for the first ever Yam Drop.

New Year’s Eve will also hold special services for many of our area churches. They invite you to attend to bring in the New Year.

As 2025 comes to a close, our GTC Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has already been making event plans for 2026.

We will begin with the year with the annual banquet in February.  Other events are, but not limited to, the annual Easter Egg Hunt in late March, the Sixth Annual Spring Has Sprung Festival on the first Saturday in April, the annual Bass Fishing Tournament in May, the annual Fireworks Celebration, then a brief break as we do what we can to help as called upon for the N.C. Yam Festival on the fourth Saturday in October.  After the Yam Fest, we dive into November for Thanksgiving and Small Business Saturday with Shop our Stores and the. Christmas Crafts Fair, then flow right on into all things Christmas.  We do all we can to keep feet on the streets of our business community year-round.

Let’s take a moment to talk a little more about the Fireworks Celebration for next July. The United States of America will celebrate 250 years of independence.  There will be magnificent celebrations held all around our nation and we will be joining that initiative as well.  250 years, y’all!  Our country will be celebrating its 250th birthday and we’re here for it.

You will be hearing a lot about the Columbus County Fourth of July Celebration which will once again be organized by your Greater Tabor City Chamber of Commerce.  We will be reaching out to Tabor City AND to the rest of our county for sponsorships to make the fireworks display of the Columbus County Fourth of July  Celebration absolutely spectacular and to increase the entertainment and more.  Please be ready when we come knocking. As Uncle Sam would say, “We Need You.”

We have barely scratched the surface of our events calendar. We work hard for our members and for this community because y’all deserve that. More information to come.

We can always use more event volunteers.  Please call us at 910.377.3012 if you are interested and willing to put in some time and effort. We work hard, but it is very rewarding.  As with any organization, there may be criticism, but the “atta boys” far outweigh those.  We thank you all for both…that helps us to grow and improve in our service to our community.

Should you wish to become a member of this Chamber of Commerce, please contact us by email at tccofc@yahoo.com or by phone at 910.377.3012 or 910.840.0292.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Keep in mind that our office has a staff of one person and we keep her pretty busy.  Aug. 12,  2026, she will reach the 30 year mark.  Such longevity is pretty rare in the Chamber world so when you see her, please wish her a happy 30 years!  She deeply loves Tabor City.

Our days and hours of operation are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

Our office is currently closed for the holidays and will reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

Remember that we are “Stronger Together”.
