Here’s today’s Bottom Line
Well as advertised, Friday was a complete washout. A little over an inch of rain fell over the area with temps stuck in the 40s… if you love the cold, rainy weather, it was perfection.
Today will be not quite as rainy but still a damp, dreary, cold day. Gulf moisture will once again lift northeast along the coast, which will bring occasional rain mainly from the late morning through the afternoon. There’s some question with this… the modeling points to a rather sharp cut-off in the precipitation shield, and there is some indication that cutoff could extend somewhere from Elizabethtown through Fair Bluff, or possibly from Watha (Pender county) through Lake Waccamaw to Conway. Another set says the I-95 corridor will be the cut-off point.
So today’s forecast has a bit of bust potential, but I’m going with 60% probability of rain.
That drops considerably later tonight, although some drizzle and fog may persist through the night.
Quite a bit of dry air will move in from the northwest early Sunday which will result in a mix of sunshine and clouds. I think any rain will be south of the area during the day Sunday. Another “frontal boundary” (more of a “shortwave trough”) will move across the area Sunday night, but moisture may be rather limited. Clouds return Sunday night with some light rain, which may linger into early Monday morning.
Dry high pressure will slowly build in later Monday and lasting through a good portion of the work week. It’ll start off quite chilly but temps will return to more normal values by the end of the week ahead of the NEXT frontal system.
