LITTLE RIVER, S.C. – Whiteville stumbled in the first game of the North Myrtle Beach Shootout By The Sea Boys Basketball Tournament but recovered to take the next two games to place fifth in the tournament.
The tournament was held Dec. 20-23 at North Myrtle Beach High School, S.C.
In game one on Saturday against Cape Fear Academy (Wilmington), the Pack jumped to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter only to struggle to score the rest of the game in a 44-36 loss to the Hurricanes. Cape Fear (8-7) came back to tie the game at 18-18 at the half. Caleb McLean led the Wolfpack with 10 rebounds in the loss.
On Monday, Whiteville used suffocating defense to build a 19-point lead early in the third quarter to cruise to a 55-45 victory over Southeastern Academy. The Pack held the Warriors (9-3) to four points in the first quarter and 11 points in the first half. Ty’lae Rose hit five 3-pointers to lead the Pack with 21 points. Caleb McLean contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds in the victory.
In the final contest for Whiteville in the tournament, The Pack overcame a early 10 point deficit to defeat North Myrtle Beach (SC) 53-47 on Tuesday afternoon. The Wolfpack trailed by six at the half and used its smothering defense to hold the Chiefs (5-7) to only three points in the third quarter.

Corey Faison led the Pack with 15 points and five steals. Caleb McLean, who was named to the All Tournament team, had eight points and seven rebounds in the win. Whiteville is now 5-3 on the season. The Wolfpack will travel to Southeastern Academy on Jan. 6 in a rematch of the Dec. 22 contest.
