Eagles Get First Win 43-36 Over North Duplin

MOUNT OLIVE — East Bladen broke a 36-36 tie with 1:30 left in the game with a 7-0 run to down North Duplin 43-36 Tuesday night. It was the first win of the season for the Eagles.

Tevin McLean hit a jumper, followed by Landyn Scott’s layup, and McLean hitting a free throw to take the victory. The Eagles now improve to 1-1 in the Carolina Conference and 1-8 overall.

Keyshawn Kemp led the Eagles with 15 points. Scott chipped in 13 points while teammate McLean finished with 12 points. North Duplin (1-2, 3-6) was led by Jaelyn Ingram with 19 points. The Eagles will host South Columbus (4-4) on Thursday in a non-conference battle. North Duplin will host Spring Creek (1-11) on Jan. 7.

Whiteville Falls to Southeastern Christian Academy 72-60

SHALLOTTE—Southeastern Christian rode a 19-0 run between the end of the half and beginning of the third quarter to defeat Whiteville 72-60 Tuesday night. The Warriors are ranked number one in the NCISAA polls.

Whiteville came out with a 15-7 lead early in the first quarter only to have the Warriors close out the quarter with a 9-0 run on a barrage of three pointers to take 16-15 lead in the second quarter. The score was tied 28-28 with three minutes to go in the second quarter, only to have SCA go on another run of 8-0 to end the half with a 36-28 lead. The Warriors continued to light up the scoreboard at the beginning of the third quarter as they started the half with a 11-0 run to push the lead to 47-28.

The Wolfpack limped into the fourth quarter trailing 59-39, but the fourth brought life to the Wolfpack as they cut the lead to 66-58 with 3:31left in the game, with three straight steals to cut into the lead even more, only to turn the ball over on each possession. The Pack never recovered and Southeastern Christian sealed the victory 72-60.

SCA (11-3) were led by Ziyon Smith with 22 points. Uzziah Marlowe added 16 points while Kolby Smith provided 13 points. The Warriors will host Liberty Christian Academy (4-7) on Jan. 10. The Wolfpack got 16 points each from Corey Faison and Ty’Lae Rose in the loss. Whiteville (5-4) will host county rival West Columbus (3-7) on Thursday.
