Area Boys’ Basketball Roundup: Pack, Knights win; Eagles Prevail In OT

Whiteville 72, South Columbus 55

WHITEVILLE—Whiteville fought off a pesky South Columbus Stallion squad on Tuesday night, 72-55.

Leading by only six at the break, the Pack exploded for 27 points in the third quarter to push the lead to over 20 points. The Wolfpack cruised the rest of the game.

Corey Faison led Whiteville with 19 points, six steals, and six assists. Teron Legette pitched in 13 points and seven rebounds and Ty’Lae Rose added 11 points in the victory.

The win pushes the Pack to second place in the Southeastern Conference with an 3-2 conference record and 9-7 overall. The Wolfpack will travel to the Swamp to face East Columbus (7-7) today (Thursday) on a non-conference rivalry game. Khalil Morgan led the Stallions with 20 points and Jalen Hubbard pitched in 10 points in the loss. South Columbus (0-5, 5-10) will host Fairmont (3-2, 7-11).

West Bladen 73, South Brunswick 59

BOILING SPRINGS—Tylik McCall scored 25 points in leading West Bladen past South Brunswick Tuesday night 72-59.

The win pushes the Southeastern Conference leaders to 5-0 in the conference and 14-5 on the year.  Jackson Pait added 14 points while Jamar Adams-Peterson pitched in 13 points. Kendell Lessane scored 11 points for the Knights. Jayden Daniels led the Cougars with 17 points. South Brunswick falls to 3-2 in the conference and 11-6 on the season. The Knights will host Whiteville (3-2, 9-7) on Friday. South Brunswick will travel to Red Springs (1-4, 3-14) on Friday to take on the Red Devils.

East Bladen 80, Hobbton 72 OT

NEWTON GROVE—East Bladen rallied from five points down to tie the game in overtime and defeat Hobbton in overtime 80-72. Landyn Scott’s 3-pointer from the corner put the Eagles in the overtime. The Eagles (5-2, 5-12) scored a 12-0 run in overtime and the rest was history. Scott was one of a three-headed snake for East Bladen, scoring 25 points, while teammates Tevin McLean and Keyshawn Kemp scored 30 points and 21 points respectively. Javonte Johnson scored 25 for the Wildcats (3-5, 5-11) and Amir Tate added 15 points. East Bladen hosted North Duplin (5-3, 9-8) on Wednesday. Hobbton will travel to North Duplin for their next contest.
