Lucas Sutton will serve a minimum of 25 years in prison after he was convicted of two counts of first degree murder today in Brunswick County.
Superior Court Judge Jason Disbrow sentenced Sutton to 25 years to life in prison, with the possibility of parole, plus 50-72 months on other charges.
Sutton, 21, was a member of the Rollins 60s branch of the crips street gang in 2022, First Assistant District Attorney Jenna Earley said in a press release. On March 6, Christopher Brooks, Antwan Thorne and Sutton – who was 17 at the time of the murders – ambushed two acquaintances and shot them to death in a cemetery in Northwest.
Sutton and Thorne were previously convicted in the case.
“Gang violence has no place in our communities and will not be tolerated,” said Earley. “Two young men lost their lives in a senseless and calculated act of violence. Mr. Sutton’s conviction closes the third and final chapter of this horrific novel.”
Earley praised the efforts of the Brunswick Sheriff’s Office and State Bureau of Investigation for their work on the case.
