The New Year brought new golf tournaments for local courses.

In Whiteville, Land O’ Lakes held its annual Collard Open. Luke Gooden and Blake Baysden won with a 12 under 60 score. In the second flight, James Simmons and Wilber Simmons won a three-way tie over the team of Rob Conway and Easton Conway and the Parks Godwin and Dylan Avant team. All three teams posted a 66 score.

Four teams shot a 69 in the third flight. Darrell Hooker and Byron Cribb were named the winners followed by the teams of Mark Harritan/Jeremy Sawyer, Joey Todd/James Hammond, and Grant Pait and Evan Pait.

The fourth flight winners were John Blake and LR Odham with a 72. Tom Taylor and Anthony Bailey took second place. The fifth flight winners with a 75 were Gerilynn Copeland and Bill Howard.

The closest to the pin winners were Blake Baysden (2), Brian Haymore (9), Pete Conkinis (14), and Brian Tart (18). Chasity McPherson won a free membership for a year and Eric Pait won free range balls for a year.

At White Lake, Kendal Hunt, Pat Chavis, Marty Hunt, and Tracy Hunt won the annual Blind Squirrel Winter Classic at Vineyard Golf with a 57. They also won a 100 yard closest-to-the-pin shootout.

The team of Matthew Oliver, Travis Mullis, Ryan Tyson, Jason Groner took second. The Matthew Davis, Colby Lewis, Zack Saldo, and Kendell Byrd team took third place.

Spencer Edwards took home the closest to the pin contest and won a Bushnell HD GPS. Breece Horton won the putting contest, taking home a LAB DF3 putter with the win.

Vineyard Golf of White Lake also has a Superintendent’s Revenge Tournament scheduled for Jan. 10 with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Entry fees are $75 for members and $100 for non-members. For more information, call the golf course at 910.247.6132.
