Girl Killed in Drive-by Shooting

A shooting moments after midnight today (Thursday) left a teenaged girl dead.

Sheriff Bill Rogers said the girl, whose name has not been released, was killed when someone opened fire on the Old Stake home just before 1 a.m.

The girl, who was 16, was killed in her bed. Family members returned fire, Rogers said, but the shooters have not been identified. The shooting occurred at 2013 Old Stake Road, roughly three miles from the town of Chadbourn.

“It’s heartbreaking,” Rogers said.

The first two deputies on scene provided emergency medical care for the girl until EMS arrived, Rogers said, but her wounds were too severe.

The State Bureau of Investigation is working with the sheriff’s office on the case.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the sheriff’s office, or submit an anonymous tip through the sheriff’s office app.
