Multiple events honoring Dr. Martin Luther King are scheduled for this weekend in Columbus County.
Saturday is the annual MLK Walk and Memorial Service beginning at 10 a.m. at Vineland Station in Whiteville. Participants will walk from the depot to the courthouse, where there will be music and guest speakers.
At 6 p.m. Saturday, Southeastern Community College will host a viewing of “Sometimes I Feel Like I Am Almost Home”, along with a symposium and story work activity led by Dr. Bertrice Berry. A reception will follow the event.
Sunday at 3 p.m., St. Mark AME Zion Church will host a community ecumenical service honoring King.
Monday (Jan. 19) at 9 a.m. Chadbourn Fellowship Alliance will host its annual walk followed by a program at 10 a.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church.
Tuesday (Jan. 20) at 11 a.m., SCC’s Student Government will host Marcus Bass, chair of the Governor’s MLK Commission and political advocacy director for the N.C. NAACP. The program will be in the SCC Auditorium.
Wednesday (Jan. 21) Facts of Life Church in Whiteville will host the SCC Day of Service at 11 a.m.
Thursday (Jan. 22) First Presbyterian Church of Whiteville will host Courageous Conversations at 6 p.m.
