Here’s today’s Bottom Line:

A memorable snowstorm to close out the month of January 2026. It’s game day.

All storm preparations must be completed by lunchtime today.

Snow … heavy at times … is likely to occur through late tonight.

There is some “bust” potential in that dry slotting is possible. If a dry slot develops over the area, much less snow can be expected. On the other extreme, phasing (combining) of the upper low over the western Carolinas with the coastal low occurs somewhat earlier in the process means absolutely blockbuster snow totals exceeding that of Christmas 1989.

How it ultimately plays out won’t really be known until the storm is in process; I will be “nowcasting” and providing updates on my social media platform.

Impacts are likely to be significant: Dangerous travel conditions, blowing and drifting snow (with localized blizzard conditions!!), reduced visibility will all combine to make life miserable across the area.

Then factor in the bitterly cold temps and wind chill readings that are coming for Sunday night. It’s not a typo on the graphic below … actual air temperatures early Monday morning will be around 5 above zero. Add in the wind, and the “feels like” temps dip to between 5 below and 5 above zero.

The bitterly cold temperatures are likely to be more impactful than the snow. It is IMPERATIVE that you bring your pets in, protect your pipes, and look after each other. Keep water dripping from the faucets to prevent pipes from freezing, and cover outdoor spigots.

Nearly everything is canceled and/or closed Sunday and Monday. So there’s no reason for anyone to be out-and-about sight-seeing, potentially getting into wrecks, etc.

This is the weekend to stay in your comfy flannel pajamas, binge-watch Netflix, enjoy your favorite snacks and foods, and take the weekend off.
