A body scanner at the Detention Center found a knife that a woman allegedly tried to smuggle into the facility.
Ashley Shantell Shaw,35, was charged with possession of a weapon by a prisoner, disorderly conduct at a school, trespassing on and impeding a school bus, and misdemeanor child abuse, according to arrest reports. Her bond was set at $30,000. Shaw gave her address as 14374 Old Lake Rd., Riegelwood.
The sheriff’s office reported that Shaw was brought to the detention center to be processed on the school-related charges after being taken into custody at the courthouse Jan. 8. She was “thoroughly” searched when she was detained, the report said.
While she was being processed, the report said, the body scanner indicated a knife hidden under her right breast. Shaw denied having anything hidden, and was scanned again. After the second examination, Shaw surrendered the knife to deputies.
The report did not detail Shaw’s charges from the school bus incident.
