Whiteville Boys 59, South Columbus 41

TABOR CITY—Trayvionne Williams scored a career high 25 points and pulled down seven rebounds as Whiteville boys won their third game in a row 59-41 on Friday night.

The Wolfpack (6-4, 12-10) will host Red Springs (1-9, 3-19) on Tuesday in the first round of the Southeastern Conference tournament. South Columbus came out strong in the first quarter as they led 14-12 after the first period. The Pack turned up the defense after that, holding the Stallions to single digits in two out of the next three quarters. Single-digit scoring quarters is high school basketball is a coach’s nightmare.

South Columbus led 19-18 midway through the second quarter but a 10-0 run by the Wolfpack took South Columbus out of the game and they never recovered. Ty’Lae Rose had a double-double with 12 points and 10 steals in the win and Teron Legette grabbed 10 rebounds. Corey Faison dished out seven assists. Khalil Morgan led the Stallions with 14 points and Kameron Johnson contributed 12 points in the loss.

South Columbus (1-9, 6-14) will travel to Fairmont (10-13) on Tuesday in the first round of the conference tournament.

South Brunswick Boys’ 69, West Bladen 66

DUBLIN—South Brunswick kept off the boards as the Cougars upset West Bladen 69-66 Friday night in boys’ basketball.

South Brunswick grabbed 16 more rebounds on the night to halt West Bladen’s 11 game winning streak and ending the Knight chances of an undefeated conference record (9-1). Jayden Daniel had 22 points on the night while teammate Edward Young added 20 points.

South Brunswick (7-3, 15-7) will have a first round bye in the Southeastern Conference tournament. They will face the Fairmont/South Columbus winner on Thursday night. West Bladen (9-1 18-6) is the top seed for the tournament. They will host the Red Springs/Whiteville winner on Thursday night.

Whiteville Girls 55, South Columbus 30

TABOR CITY—Ceonna Dennis led three players in double figures as the Wolfpack defeated South Columbus 55-30 in girls’ basketball Friday night.

Dennis had 15 points while teammates Asia Smith and Naylani Smith scored 12 points each in the victory. Whiteville (6-4, 9-12) will face Red Springs (1-9, 3-18) at the Wolves’ Den Tuesday in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament. South Columbus (2-7, 4-16) will travel to West Bladen (3-7, 5-16) Tuesday night in the first round of the tournament.
