WHITEVILLE—Fairmont overcame an 11-point second half deficit to defeat Whiteville 56-48 on Friday night.
After only putting up six first quarter points, the Tornadoes torched the nets for 37 second half points. Fairmont (5-3, 9-12) was led by Josh Townsend with 12 points. The Tornadoes will travel to Boiling Springs to face South Brunswick (6-2, 12-6) on Tuesday.
The Wolfpack (3-4, 9-10) was led by Ty’Lae Rose with 16 points. The loss was the Wolfpack’s third in a row. Whiteville will travel to Red Springs (1-7, 3-17) on Tuesday.

SALEMBURG—Lakewood ended an eight-game losing streak as they upset East Columbus 54-46 in boys’ basketball on Friday night.
The Leopards move to 3-7 in the Carolina Conference and 7-13 on the season. They will travel to Elizabethtown to take on East Bladen (6-4, 6-14) on Tuesday. East Columbus falls to 6-3 in the conference and 8-9 overall. The Gators host Union (2-8, 4-15) Tuesday.
South Brunswick 55 South Columbus 51
BOILING SPRINGS—South Brunswick (6-2, 12-6) defeated South Columbus 55-51 in boys’ basketball Friday night.
The Cougars will host Fairmont (5-3, 9-12) in a key Southeastern Conference battle Tuesday night. The Stallions were led by Kameron Johnson with 21 points and Khalil Morgan added 17 points in the loss. South Columbus (1-7, 6-12) will travel to Dublin to face West Bladen (8-0, 17-5) on Feb. 10.
West Columbus Boys 60 Hobbton 57
CERRO GORDO—West Columbus used a tough defense to defeat Hobbton Friday night 60-57. The Vikings also ruled the boards as they held the Wildcats to only 21 rebounds on the night.
West Columbus led by as much as 12 points in the first half only to hold off a furious Wildcat rally in the second half. The Vikings move to 8-3 in the Carolina Conference and 10-11 on the season. West Columbus will travel to North Duplin (6-3, 10-8) on Tuesday. Amari Tate scored 22 points in the loss for Hobbton (3-6, 5-12) while teammate Javont’e Johnson added 20 points. It was the third straight loss for the Wildcats. They will also face North Duplin in their next contest today (Monday).

RED SPRINGS—West Bladen used its stifling defense to crush Red Springs Friday night 68-35.
The Knights force the Red Devils into 33 turnovers on the night and only four points in the third quarter. West Bladen came out on fire as they built a 26-point lead in the first half. The Knights also clinched at least a tie for the Southeastern Conference title with the victory.
Tylik McCall led the Knights (8-0, 17-5) with 13 points on the night. West Bladen will host South Columbus (1-7, 6-12) on February 10. Red Springs will host Whiteville (3-4, 9-10) Tuesday night.

ROSE HILL—East Bladen fought off a cold third quarter to defeat Union Friday night 45-42 in overtime.
The Eagles only could muster two points in the quarter to fall behind after enjoying an eight-point lead in the first half. Keyshawn Kemp turned in a strong performance for East Bladen, scoring 29 points on the night.
East Bladen (6-4, 6-14) will host Lakewood (3-7, 7-13) on Tuesday night in a Carolina Conference game. Union was led by Kenny Ray Bailey with 14 points and seven rebounds. Josiah Swinson contributed 12 points and Troy Trendwell added 10 points. The Spartans (2-8, 4-15) go to The Swamp to face East Columbus (6-3, 8-9) today (Monday).
