Canal Dove Road at Lake Waccamaw is closed near Weaver Drive, forcing a long detour for residents, school buses and other motorists.
The Lake Waccamaw Police said in a social media post this weekend that the road is closed from Weaver Drove to 209 Canal Cove Road.
“Please do not move the signs or try and drive around them,” the post reads. “It is not safe to drive on. You must use an alternate route.”
Town manager Damon Kempski said the contractor decided last week to completely close the section of roadway while working on a wastewater improvement project. Initially one lane was going to be kept open, but the narrow width of the road made that unsafe, Kempski said. Town officials met with the contractor Thursday along with representatives from the school system and first responders to discuss the closure.
The road may be closed through Easter, Kempski said.
