Lake Waccamaw’s interim town manager is a familiar face in the community.
Darren Currie served as Lake Waccamaw’s town manager before moving to the manager’s post in Whiteville. He retired from Whiteville Dec. 31, after 11 years ion the city and 30 years overall in public service.
Currie was hired today (Thursday) as interim manager at the lake. He said he expects to be there for three months while a new permanent manager is hired.
“They have a lot of projects going on,” Currie said. “I’m glad to see the work continuing. There’s always a lot of work to be done with any town, and it’s good when a town sets out to deal with infrastructure issues.”
Damon Kempski resigned from the town last week. Currie said he plans to start work Monday, and will be on duty three days a week.
“I’m looking forward to it,” Currie said, laughing. “I managed to stay out of local government for six weeks, anyway.”
