The ongoing sewer improvements along Canal Cove Drive will likely cause delays through Easter, the town manager said today.
Traffic is being detoured from the area while new lines are installed for the town’s wastewater system. Town Manager Damon Kempski said the contractor initially thought Canal Cove would not have to be closed for another month.
“They realized this week that they’d have about eight feet of road open,” he said. “That’s fine for a golf cart or a compact car, but not for buses, trucks or anything with any weight.”
The contractor decided to limit traffic out of concerns for safety, Kempski said. Initial plans called for detours later in March, but the contractor told town officials Thursday that limiting traffic was necessary.
“They made the decision to go ahead and block the road,” Kempski said, “then they told us during a meeting yesterday (Thursday).” Kempski said town staff, fire, EMS, police and school officials met with the contractor Thursday about the changes.
The town is providing updates on the project via social media and the town website.
