Two Students Face Felony Charges

Two students at East Columbus Junior Senior High face felony assault charges after allegedly slamming another student against a table.

The sheriff’s office said the School Resource Officer was called to a fight in the cafeteria Thursday, and found a large group of students watching the altercation. Staff and the deputy separated the students.

One of the boys had a “severe laceration to the corner of the upper lip,” the report said, “with visible blood on the floor and on the officer.” That student, who is 15, was checked out by the school nurse who noted that the injury was “nearly through-and-through to the mouth area,” and needed stitches.

The other two students were uninjured, the report said.

Video showed that two 16-year-old students approached the victim from across the cafeteria, surrounded him and forced him to stand. The video showed the students “assume fighting stances” then “chase, grab and slam” his face against a table. They then allegedly hit him multiple times.

Felony charges are being sought due to the severity of the injuries, the report said.

Because the victim and the suspects are juveniles, their names were not released.
