Here’s today’s Bottom Line:

High-and-dry weather can be expected across the area today, tomorrow, and Saturday. Temps will be around seasonal normal values today and tomorrow, rising back into the 60s on Saturday.

High pressure will be in firm control with nothing but sunshine and clear skies about the area.

A few more clouds start to increase by Saturday afternoon ahead of our …

SUNDAY SOAKER EVENT.

While there still remain some differences in overall model guidance, I am going with 100% rain chances for Sunday into Sunday night.

The cold front that moved through on Wednesday will transition to a warm(ish) front well to our south. The increasing southerly flow will push this front back into the area early Sunday.

Meanwhile an area of low pressure at the surface will be moving from northern Mississippi east-northeast across northern NC Sunday into early Monday.

The moisture with this system will bring some of the best rainfall we’ve seen in quite a while.

The guidance is suggesting between 1-2 inches of rain for the area. There will still be some fine-tuning of this through Friday.

Here is the latest National Blend of Models rainfall projection.  Note – I don’t know why the numbers aren’t filled in over North Carolina… a glitch with the model software.

Following the system, WARM temps are likely through next week. No… it’s not springtime yet so don’t get excited… but a fairly lengthy period of above-normal temps are likely. This will help cut down on those escalating energy bills we’re experiencing from the bitterly cold temps of January.
