Area Softball Roundup: Gators Demolish Pack 21-4; Stallions, Knights Fall

WHITEVILLE—Sara Coleman blasted two home runs and knocked in five runs as the East Columbus Gators defeated Whiteville 21-4 in softball Monday night.

The Gators (3-1) got on the board early with five runs in the first and never looked back. MacKenzi Clemmons went 4-4 while teammates Aleigh Godwin, Jenna King, Kamora Bryant had three hits each in the victory.

The Gators will travel to Calypso March 10 (today) to face North Duplin (2-1) in a Carolina Conference match. Angel Smith went two for three at the plate with an RBI for Whiteville. The Wolfpack (0-3) will travel to Lumberton (3-1) on Wednesday.

LORIS 10, SOUTH COLUMBUS 0

LORIS, S.C.—Jessie Cartrette and Bellamy Gore combined for a two-hitter as the Loris Lions defeated South Columbus 10-0 in softball Monday night.

Both pitchers combined for nine strikeouts and no runs in the victory. Riley Herring had two hits and three RBI’s and Kenzie McCoy had two hits and knocked in a run for the Lions. Haley Spence was also 2-3 with an RBI for Loris. Loris (5-0) will host South Brunswick (3-2) on Wednesday. The Stallions (1-3) will host Heide Trask (1-0) on March 10.

PENDER 12, WEST BLADEN 4

DUBLIN—A six-run sixth inning propelled Pender past West Bladen 12-4 on Monday.

Naima Sheppard had three hits and Alayna Rooks knocked in three runs to go with her home run in the victory. Kali Allen and Natalee Sykes knocked in two runs each in the loss for the Knights (1-4).

Pender is scheduled to take on Wallace Rose Hill (2-3) in Burgaw on March 10. West Bladen will host North Brunswick (3-1) on Wednesday in Dublin.
