Someone stole thousands of dollars worth of tools from a county department in a larceny that wasn’t reported for several days.
Whiteville Police said they were called to the Columbus County Parks and Recreation garage on North Thompson Street March 2. Employees discovered someone had cut through a fence and gained access to several vehicles and buildings, according to the report.
The larceny apparently happened Feb. 28, according to the police report. Workers found the damage around 7:30 a.m. the following Monday, March 2.
The suspects pillaged four unlocked vehicles, taking chainsaws, trimmers, backpack blowers, hand tools, a generator and other items valued at more than $13,000. They also accessed several buildings, but no items were reported missing and damage was minimal.
