Two Charged After Fight, Stabbing

Two suspects were jailed after a Friday night fight on Smith Street in Whiteville.

John Wayne Cooper, 44, of 108 Buttercup Lane, Lumberton, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and placed under $10,000 secured bond. Bobby Ray Inman, 57, of 1140 Zion Church Rd., Bladenboro, was charged with simple assault and held without bond.

Whiteville Police Chief Paul Rockenbach said the two men were at 110 Smith Street when police were called just after 10 p.m. Inman had visible lacerations to his face, the report said, and Cooper also had minor injuries. Cooper had allegedly assaulted Inman with a knife, stabbing and cutting him on the face and in the arms and abdomen. Cooper was still in the residence when police arrived.

Both men were treated and released, then taken into custody. Cooper and Inman both have unrelated drug charges pending in Columbus County District Court.
