Here’s today’s Bottom Line

We’ll have hot and steamy conditions across the area today ahead of a cold front. This front will drop toward the area late tonight, but it’s not entirely clear whether or not the front actually makes it entirely through the area tonight. A few showers or thunderstorms are possible later this afternoon through about midnight.

Then on Friday the front lifts back to the north as a warm front. Additional showers and thunderstorms are a good bet with this front.

A deep, moist, tropical air mass becomes established over the area later Friday, lasting through the weekend and well into next week. Our daily weather pattern will feature some sunshine each morning giving way to scattered showers and thunderstorms through the afternoon and evening hours.

It’s impossible to predict times and locations of showers/storms in this kind of environment. They’ll be “popcorn” in nature with a decent overall areal coverage. As for rainfall amounts, the potential is there for some places to pick up several inches of rainfall, while other areas pick up little, if any.

For my forecast Friday through Wednesday I’m painting with a broad brush for showers and storms, with a 70% chance by day, 40-50% by night. Unfortunately this includes Memorial Day, but honestly, we really do need the rainfall.

Thunderstorms aren’t likely to be severe in nature, but could produce localized torrential rainfall and frequent lightning. One or two may briefly pulse severe but that’s going to be an exception, not the rule.

It’ll be very humid through the period with highs in the mid to upper 80s, lows around 70.
