WHITEVILLE—The Wolfpack baseball team won in grand fashion with a bottom of the seventh 3-2 comeback win against Providence Grove in the 3A playoffs on Friday night.
Trailing 2-1 with one out, Ty’Lae Rose hit a line-drive single to right field with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning to move Jaquan McKinnis from first to third. Nate Merritt hit a fielder’s choice ground ball to knock McGinnis in and put Rose in scoring position, which happened on a Will Dabbs wild pitch pass ball to Collin Hooks give the Wolfpack the exciting win.
Nate Merritt went the distance for the Pack, giving up five hits and one walk. The win puts the Wolfpack in the third round on Tuesday hosting Southeastern Conference foe West Bladen (18-7) at 7 p.m.
The Wolfpack defeated West Bladen at home 12-2 on March 24 and took care of the Knights in Dublin 8-4 on March 26. The winner will advance to face the Ayden-Grifton (22-2/South Lenior (15-6) winner on Friday, May 15.
