LELAND—Central Columbus gave a strong run in the 2026 Dixie Softball Word Series but fell short 9-0 to Charlotte County, Va. in the championship.
For the most part, this Columbus County team has been to two straight Word Series in softball. This year’s Ponytails club was heavily comprised of the 2025 Central Columbus 2025 X-Play World Series Championship squad that brought it all home last year.
The Ponytails lost to Charlotte County in the first round 7-1 but defeated West Carroll. Nottaway, S.C., to get back to the World Series title match.
Members of the Ponytail squad are Paisley Batten, Mia Benton, Parker Dippel, Paisleigh Floyd, Layla Grace, Katie Lilley, Brylee Morrison, Rileigh Rabon , Karli Sullivan, Camela Torelli, Larken Lancaster, and Jenna Wilson.
