Area Volleyball Roundup: Clinton Knocks East Bladen; Stallions, Gators Win

In Elizabethtown, Clinton defeated East Bladen 3-0 in volleyball on Thursday. It was the first loss of the season for the Eagles (2-1).

The Dark Horses (3-0) downed the Eagles by scores of 25-19, 25-7, and 25-19. Clinton got off to a fast start in Game One as they bolted to an 8-0 lead. East Bladen responded by cutting the lead to 12-6 and trimmed the deficit to 19-16. Clinton regained control to end the game 25-19.

The second game started just like the first as the Dark Horses jumped to an 7-1 advantage. The Eagles had no rally in this game and Clinton cruised in Game Two to 25-7 victory.

Another slow start by East Bladen killed the Eagles in Game Three as Clinton jumped to an 11-4 lead to start. East Bladen cut the lead to 18-15 before Clinton went on a run to win the game and match 25-19. Taylor Dowless led the Eagles in the loss with seven kills.

East Bladen will travel to South Columbus (3-0) on Aug. 17 to take on the unbeaten Stallions. Clinton will travel to county rival Lakewood (1-1) on Tuesday.

In Shallotte, The Stallions got their third win of the season as the defeated West Brunswick 3-1 on Thursday. South Columbus (3-0) lost the first game 25-27, but won the next three 25-21, 25-16, and 25-22.

South Columbus will host East Bladen (2-1) on Monday while West Brunswick (0-3) will host Whiteville (0-3) on Aug. 17. In Whiteville, the Pack lost their third in a row as they were defeated by East Columbus 2-0 on Thursday. Results were not available at press time.

The Gators (1-1) will host South Columbus (3-0) on Tuesday. Whiteville (0-3) will travel to Shallotte to face West Brunswick (0-3) on Aug. 17.
