It’s August which means some schools are back in session while that first day for even more students is right around the corner.
There are Back to School Bashes, special sales, and all sorts of celebrations going on in and around our community. You may have noticed some area businesses are decorating for the fall season. A few have had fall open houses already while others are still yet to come.
When we see fall decorations out we know that the N.C. Yam Festival is drawing closer. Below is some important information which has been updated since last year’s festival.
The Tabor City Public Library, located at 101 East Fifth Street, sits next door to the Yam Festival Office. The library serves as Yam Festival Headquarters for information and a variety of “Free Souvenirs” such as coloring books, notepads, and bookmarks especially during the months of September and October.
During the month of October, stop by to see the handmade craft work of our Mascot, Tiger Tater. You do not want to miss it!
The ladies there will have T-shirts and other souvenirs on display only. Souvenirs must be purchased from the N.C. Yam Festival Office, located, just a few steps away, next door to the library.
Parade and vendor applications may be picked up from the library, but must be returned with payment at the N.C. Yam Festival office.
The NC Yam Festival Scholarship Pageant will kick off the month of October. Applications are available for pick up at the Yam Fest Office and Bri’s Caring Heart Child Care. Should you have any questions, please 910.377.3248.
For the full schedule of events, please check out our website at ncyamfestival.com.
If you would like to sponsor events with the N.C. Yam Festival’s events or the Chamber of Commerce, please reach out to us by phone or email. We would wholeheartedly welcome you. We always need volunteers too. Just give us a call!

We look forward to hearing from you. We are stronger and better together.
Our extended days and hours of operation as the Yam Festival nears are Tuesday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Should you need to schedule a meeting outside of the above days and hours, please call me, Cynthia Nelson, at 910.840.0292.
Reminder: The NC Yam Festival is a little more than two months away. Please start thinking about decorating our community to show your love for the festival and for the fall season. Let’s make our Yam Man proud! More announcements to come!
