Two Whiteville men face charges after a shootout on Ward Street Friday.
Shyreak William Belton, 34, of 429 Ward Street, was held without bond on a single count of firing into an occupied vehicle, according to warrants and detention center reports.
Arthur Dale Jackson, 19, of 106 City Dr., is also held without bond, on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a firearm in the city limits, firing into an occupied dwelling, and possession of a handgun by a minor.
Warrants show that Jackson and Belton allegedly shot at each other with a “brown pistol” and an AR-15 pattern handgun just before 7 p.m. Jackson is reported to have fired multiple rounds into Belton’s home. Belton returned fire, striking Jackson’s vehicle.
A woman was with Jackson in his Chevrolet Equinox during the shooting, according to warrants.
Area residents reported hearing multiple gunshots before a large police presence descended on the area. At least one person was taken to Columbus Regional by private vehicle.
