CLINTON—Logan McLean passed for 201 yards and two touchdowns as Whiteville defeated Clinton 34-21 in football on Friday night.
McLean was 8-12 on the night passing. The Pack got on the board first with a 56-yard touchdown pass from McLean to Trayvionne Williams to put the Wolfpack ahead 7-0 with 7:13 in the first quarter. Issac Elkins added the extra point.
In the second quarter, Logan Little found the end zone from four yards away to push Whiteville lead to 14-0 with the PAT from Elkins. McLean found Teron Legett for a 20-yard touchdown pass to push the Pack advantage to 21-0. The PAT was good.
Clinton got on the board at the end of the second quarter with an Eliza Bryant touchdown pass to cut the lead to 21-7 going into the half. Dustin Pike added the PAT for the Dark Horses. With 8:16 in the third quarter, Clinton sliced the Whiteville lead to 21-14 with a 55-yard touchdown run by Gavin Miller. Pike converted the extra point.
Ty’Lae Rose added to the Wolfpack lead later in the third quarter with a one-yard touchdown run. Elkin’s extra point made it 28-14. Ty’Lae Rose rushed for another one-yard touchdown run to give the Pack a 34-14 advantage with 8:40 remaining in the contest. Bryant threw for his second touchdown of the night late in the game to cut the lead to 34-21. That would remain the final score.
Ty’Lae Rose had 129-yard rushing and two touchdowns for Whiteville.
Whiteville (5-0) will travel to West Bladen (0-5) on Oct. 2. The Pack are currently sitting at No. 8 in the 3A polls. Clinton falls to 3-2 on the season. The Dark Horses will host Pender (2-1) on Oct. 2.
