The sheriff’s office has identified David Kadeem Hemingway, 28, as the man killed in the Oct. 5 shooting near Tabor City.
Hemingway and two other men were shot on Memory Lane just after 11 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office. All were taken to an area hospital for treatment. Hemingway later died of his injuries.
Jail reports show Hemingway was arrested Aug. 11 on a charge of failure report as a sex offender. He was released on $5,000 secured bond. At the time, he gave his address as 64 Live Oak Lane, Tabor City. He also listed an address on Bruce Street in Fair Bluff.
On Aug. 29, 2019, Hemingway was arrested on multiple felonies, including fleeing to elude arrest and trafficking cocaine. He was jailed under $150,000 secured bond after turning himself in. Hemingway allegedly ran from Fair Bluff Police after a traffic stop in July 2019. Officers recovered a quantity of cocaine after the chase.
In January 2018, Hemingway was convicted of indecent liberties with a 14 year old girl, and sentenced to 37 months in prison. He was released in May of that year.
