On Friday, September 17, 2021, God called Mrs. Olive May Watson Barfield to her Heavenly home; she lived a wonderful life of 102 years.
May was born on January 2, 1919, in Franklin County, to the late Calvin William and Annie May Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Jack T. Watson and Burke Barfield; three sisters, Virginia Patterson, Grace B. Moore and Gloria B. Gillispie.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. on Monday, September 20, 2021 at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn with a graveside service following at Columbus Memorial Park (1227 South Madison Street) in Whiteville with Reverend Jami Britt Noble officiating.
Mrs. Barfield was a faithful member of Chadbourn United Methodist Church, of which she served in various roles over the years. She was a Registered Nurse, having worked for Columbus County Hospital for many years.
May is survived by her children, Lynn Watson Cain (Harold) of Lake Waccamaw, Gene Thomas Watson (Donna) of Chadbourn, Robin Watson (Tonda) of Burlington; step-children, Robert Barfield (Jennifer) of Philadelphia, PA, Nancy Barfield of Lumberton, Carolyn Faircloth (Charles) of Lumberton; 4 grandchildren, Lisa C. Parsons (Hunter), Candace C. Fuda (John), S.J. Hooper (Brandon), Travis Watson and 6 great-grandchildren, Logan, Liam, J.C., Caleb, Kaylen and Jack.
