A new sensation of the heart is sweeping through the county, and you may find evidence of its impact in Whiteville.
Angela Norris proposed a question on a Facebook post about a rock she found in a flower pot.
“Has anyone seen green rocks being placed around town in random places?” The answer she received was one of love and kindness.
“New Hope Baptist Church is placing the rocks. They may have a Bible verse or a picture painted on the rocks. The Kindness Rocks project,” she said.
The Kindness Rock Project has one goal in mind. They promote random acts of kindness to unsuspecting recipients by painting and sharing inspirational rocks. The craft is a fun and easy one.
First, you just need a smooth clean rock either gathered outdoors, or bought at a gardening store. You then paint the surface with a non-toxic paint to prepare it for your pictures or words. When it dries, you can then use paint pens to write messages like “Don’t give up” or “Jesus loves you.” You can paint images like hearts or flowers. The design of the rock is totally up to you. Take your rocks with you wherever you go and place them in areas like benches with flowerpots or at parks. Outdoor areas are best.
Just be sure to use materials that are completely non-toxic so they don’t harm people or animals. Don’t glue googly eyes or add stickers to them. Ask permission, if possible, when leaving the rocks.
Organizations don’t have to be the only ones involved. Folks can do it on their own.
“Mike and I had started painting some on our own. We have not placed any yet, but we have found some. They made us both smile so we wanted to do the same,” said Tina Hascup.
