Prison officials are reporting that a Tabor Correctional Inmate apparently committed suicide in his cell early Wednesday (today).
Malek Moore, 29, was serving an eight year sentence as an habitual felon. Prison records show he was set for release in June 2022. Moore was from Guilford County.
Malek was discovered around 4:30 a.m. in his cell. Prison staff performed first aid on Moore for about 20 minutes before paramedics arrived.
John Bull of the Department of Public Safety is cooperating with Tabor City Police on the case. DPS is also conducting its own investigation.
