Beloved son, brother and uncle, Charles Mayo Norris of Longs, SC and formerly of Whiteville, NC was called home to his Heavenly Father on February 4, 2022.
Mr. Norris was the son of the late WJ Norris and Nellie Gray Martin Norris, both deceased, formerly of Whiteville, NC. He was preceded in death by two of his treasured sisters, Annette Best Grainger of Lake Waccamaw, NC and Carolyn Best Camp of Montgomery, AL.
He is survived by a sister, Geneva Norris Allen (Phillip) of Little River, SC and a brother, William Roger Norris (Yvonne) of Whiteville, NC and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mr. Norris had a lifelong love of education and psychology. Following his service in the US Army, he graduated from Auburn University at Montgomery and completed his graduate studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was an active alumnus. For many years, he was a professor at several universities in the Carolinas and concluded his career with many years of service as a mental health counselor in Bladen County.
Charles will be remembered by close family members, students, and clients for his devotion to the needs of others, quick intellect, and warm laugh.
A parishioner at Sacred Heat Catholic Church and Our Lady Star of the Sea, a Roman Catholic graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Monday, February 21, 2022 at Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery in Chadbourn. (5700 Chadbourn Hwy.)
In lieu of flowers, he requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
