Sharon Diane Butler Waldron, age 72 of Asheboro and formerly of Whiteville, passed away at High Point Regional Hospital on Tuesday, August 23, 2022. She was surrounded by her husband and children.
She was the daughter of the late Merle Joyce Bullock Butler and Erwin Butler.
Sharon graduated from Whiteville High School in 1968, going on to complete her higher education from UNC Pembroke with a BS degree and receiving her Masters of Education from the University of South Carolina. Sharon began a teaching career with the Whiteville City Schools where she taught 5th grade at Edgewood Elementary. She completed her 30 year career at Asheboro City Schools retiring in 2004.
Sharon had a profound love for music beginning at an early age and shared her musical gifts in many ways. While teaching at Edgewood, she actively supported the school’s music director by providing voice and piano accompaniment for the program. She directed the music program at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Whiteville for many years and continued sharing her musical gifts while a member of First United Methodist Church, Asheboro after relocating to Asheboro in 1998.
Sharon had a deep appreciation for history, was an avid reader and enjoyed researching ancestry after her retirement. Her most cherished activity was to spend quality time with her children, and especially her grandchildren.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Franklin Deleon Waldron of the home; three children, Jeffrey Lynn Waldron (Barbara Ann) of Whiteville, Jonathan Scott Waldron (April) of Ramseur and Celia Waldron King (Gerald) of LaGrange, GA; brothers Michael Edward Butler (Gloria) of Conway, SC and Marty Erwin Butler (Pam) of Whiteville, sister Catherine B. Gerald (Glenn) of Whiteville; half-brothers, Robin L. Butler (Maria) of Clarkton and Eddie S. Butler (Deborkah) of Chadbourn; six grandchildren, David Matthewson, Laken Waldron, Zachary Waldron, Tommy Waldron, Dakota Waldron, Garett Waldron; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Final rites will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2022 at the Worthington Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Barren Nobles officiating. Interment will follow at the Gore Family Cemetery, Whiteville.
The family will receive friends and family from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2022 at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn.
