Deputies in Columbus and Bladen counties are investigating a rash of car breakins that occurred Thursday night.
The thieves hit areas north of Whiteville, and along the N.C. 211 corridor between Bladenboro and Clarkton, according to both sheriff’s offices.
Laptop computers, change and other items were taken, but firearms are especially being targeted, Sheriff Jody Greene said in a social media post.
“They (the suspects) were simply dropped off and walked house to house and car to car where they found doors unlocked and took weapons,” the post said. “It is very important to lock your vehicles and secure your weapons so they do not get into the wrong hands.”
Both departments have received surveillance video and photographs, and any other information is welcome. In Columbus County, call 910.642.6551 or after 5 p.m., 910.640.1428. In Bladen, call 910.862.6960.
