Joyce Marie Potter Burney, age 72, of Kelly, NC went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 10, 2022, at her home. She was born in Bladen County on February 26, 1950, to the late Samuel Potter and Juanita Squires Potter.
Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her sons were her heart and were “perfect” in her eyes. She loved spending time with their families especially the grandkids. Joyce enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom to her children until they graduated high school. She then went to school to become an EMT and later a registered paramedic. Joyce worked for many years with the Kelly Rescue Unit. When not working, she enjoyed tending her chickens, the garden and sitting by her fishpond.
Joyce was an active member of her church serving as Sunday School Teacher, working with Vacation Bible School, and serving in the kitchen. Her compassion for others, her unending love for her family and her dedication to her job will never be forgotten.
Joyce is survived by her two sons, Kevin Burney of Kelly, and David Burney and wife Donna of Kelly, one sister Dana Tatum of Elizabethtown, and five grandchildren, Andrew Todd, Brandon Todd, Kayla Todd, Hunter Burney, and Jaxson Burney. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Earl Burney, one brother Sammy Potter and one sister, Patricia Lewis.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm on Thursday, October 13rh at the Centerville Baptist Church in Kelly followed by a funeral service at 2 pm with the Reverend Allen Murray officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
