A man and woman were charged with possession of a sawed-off shotgun and other crimes after an altercation near Clarendon Monday, the sheriff’s office reported.
Willie Jackson, 42, and Raven Peppers, 19, were each charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction, possession of a weapon with an altered serial number, and carrying a concealed weapon. Jackson was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, and drug paraphernalia. Peppers was released on an unsecured $30,000 bond, but Jackson was held under a $40,000 secured bond.
The pair were arrested after Jackson allegedly brandished a weapon and threatened another man at a home on Clarendon-Chadbourn Road. Deputies were called to the area and spotted Jackson standing beside the road, the report said. He jumped into a vehicle and led deputies on a short chase.
When he was searched, the report said, Jackson was found to have a plastic bag containing lighters and a smoking pipe. Both the man and woman said there were no weapons in the vehicle, but as Peppers was being removed from the car, the report said a “black towel” fell off the center console and made “a loud noise.”
The 12 gauge shotgun had been cut off to below the illegal limit, and had its serial number obscured, the report said. Neither suspect claimed ownership of the weapon.
