Speed and no seatbelt led to the death of a Clarendon man Friday on Lebanon church Road.
Nathaniel Ray Ward, 22, was ejected when his 2000 Ford Ranger crashed around 7:31 p.m., according to Sgt. Andrew Pait of the Highway Patrol. Ward was the only occupant of the vehicle.
Ward was traveling south on Lebanon Church Road when he went off the right shoulder in a curve, overcorrected, crossed the centerline and struck a ditch. The truck overturned, and Ward was ejected. The vehicle came to a stop facing east.
The truck was estimated to be traveling at 70 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone when the crash occurred.
Friends and family members spent part of Easter Sunday at a memorial at the site of the wreck.
Ward was the fifth death on county roads so far this year. His was the first fatality since a Loris woman was killed in a crash near the state line in March.
