Paroled murderer Duane Manning escaped from probation officers Thursday while being returned to South Carolina.
Manning, 56, was convicted in Columbus County Superior Court in August for assault on an officer, assault with a deadly weapon and forgery. He was arrested in March 2022 after trying to ram an investigator’s car in Green Acres, then striking and injuring an investigator. Manning was found guilty of those charges in August.
In 1995, Manning was convicted of murder in South Carolina. He was released on supervised parole and allowed to stay in North Carolina under a cooperative agreement between the two states.
The Department of Adult Corrections said he escaped custody around 2:30 p.m. Officers were trying to bring him into the Columbus Detention Center to begin the review process of his parole revocation after the assault and forgery convictions here. Manning broke away and ran from officers.
Manning is described as a white male, with a dark complexion. He is 6’2” tall, and weighs 160 pounds, He has brown hair and brown eyes, and a tattoo on his right arm.
