Friday Wreck Kills Motorcyclist

A motorcyclist leaving a wedding rehearsal dinner died early Friday in Union Valley.

Kerwin D. Chavis, 33, crashed his 2002 Harley Davidson in a ditch, according to the Highway Patrol.  He had a Chaunceytown Road address.

The crash was reported at 2:20 a.m., according to the Highway Patrol. Chavis was traveling south on Union Valley Road near the events venue known as the Farm at a high rate of speed when the motorcycle went through a curve and off the left side, striking a ditch. The motorcycle landed in a nearby field, and Chavis was found in the ditch, according to the wreck report.

The death brings the total number of highway fatalities to 15 for the year. A woman died earlier last week after crashing her car into a logging truck stopped at a traffic light in Riegelwood.
Chavis was an electric lineman and former member of the U.S. Air Force.
