Jerrie Juanita Hewitt Evans, age 83, of Ash, NC, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, at Seacoast McLeod Healthcare, Little River, SC.
Jerrie was born in Bladen County to the late Edgar “Eddie” Hewitt and Moddie Wright Hewitt. In addition to her parents and siblings, she is preceded in death by her husband; Robert Edwin Evans.
Jerrie had many talents. She was an accomplished seamstress and used her talents working at the blue jean factory in Whiteville. After obtaining her GED later in life she continued her education to work as a CNA in the healthcare field. She loved working the land and did so by farming, gardening, and growing flowers. Jerrie could make anything grow. She loved her birds and her chickens. She very much loved her family.
Left to cherish her memory are her son; David Trent Evans (Renee) of Ash, two daughters; Jeanine Hughes of Ash and Robin Mercer (Randy) of Old Dock, son; Blake Evans of Hallsboro, and son Wesley Evans (Manar) of Michigan, her grandchildren; Cathy Barnes (Matthew), Laurie Taylor (Patrick), Samantha Mercer (Timothy), Chase Mercer (Nicole), Evan Mercer, Raven Duncan (Ben), Lauren Evans Long (Stephen), Sara Hughes (fiancé: Nick), Travis Ezzell, Haley Smith, Justin Honeycutt, Harper Evans, Samuel Evans, and Lilly Evans, great grandchildren; Clayton Jackson, Braylee Jackson, Jamie Long, Mattie Barnes, Jesse Duncan, Maggie Duncan, Isaac Barnes, Ford Barnes, Kourtney Taylor, and Tyler Taylor, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at 2:00 pm in the McKenzie Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Darryll Hester officiating. Burial will follow at Myrtle Head Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 -1:45 pm prior to the service.
