Two shooting incidents were reported on Wright Road over the weekend, but one case was closed after witnesses refused to cooperate with law enforcement.
The sheriff’s office reported that deputies were called to a home on Wright Road Saturday just before 7 a.m. A woman told them she heard multiple shots on nearby Deer Lane. As deputies headed in that direction, the report said they heard more gunfire, and saw a man standing in the yard of a home in the 3600 block of Wright Road.
The man told deputies that his home and the property next door had been struck by gunfire, but he did not want to provide any additional information.
A female subject told the deputies that “multiple people” were inside the second home when it was hit by gunfire. She refused to provide more information out of concern that her name and address would be published in the media.
A second female from another address provided deputies with a plastic bag of 5.56 mm and 9 mm shell casings she said she collected after her home was shot the night before. She said she did not contact law enforcement because she did not want her information made public.
Both homes were struck around 15 times each, the report said.
Deputies returned to Wright Road, this time in the 4600 block, just after 8 p.m. to a report of an individual shot while driving through the area. They found the victim’s empty car in a driveway at the home, but no one was at the residence or in the area.
Deputies then contacted the victim via the same telephone number she had used to call 911, the report said. The woman told deputies she had fled the area because she did not know if it was safe for her and her children to stay at the property. She returned when deputies had the scene secured.
Upon her return to the home, the report said, the victim told deputies that another man had been shot, and he had been transported by private vehicle to Seacoast Hospital, then transferred to Grand Strand with a head wound.
Horry County Police then contacted CCSO deputies and said the shooting may have occurred across the state line.
The investigation is continuing.
