Tabor City police arrested a wanted man after he was stopped for pulling a trailer without taillights.
Austin Grey Reneger, 27, was held under a secured bond on Guilford County charges of discharging a firearm in a city and injury to personal property. He was also charged with simple possession of marijuana. Reneger is from Kernersville, according to the detention center report.
Tabor City Police stopped a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Reneger just after 11 p.m. Ptm. J. McKeithan reported that the Tahoe was pulling a van on a trailer, and there were no taillights on trailer. A passenger in the vehicle, Brandon Johnston, advised that there was no insurance on the Tahoe.
A records check showed that Reneger was wanted in Guilford County for discharging a firearm and damage to property. Reneger then told the officer that there was a Glock handgun in the SUV. The pistol, with a 31 round magazine, was found in the rear cargo area.
While McKeithan was making an inventory of the vehicle, he found a small quantity of marijuana in a plastic bag. Reneger and passengers Tony Johnson, Bandon Johnson and Tiffany Morales denied knowledge of the drugs. Tony Johnson and Morales were cited for misdemeanor marijuana possession.
The handgun was held for safekeeping until ownership could be confirmed.
