A woman with strong local ties died Friday in Hurricane Helene’s flooding in the North Carolina mountains.
Melissa Neisler Lawrence, 63, of King’s Mountain, was trying to help a neighbor during the flooding that engulfed the western part of the state. Neisler’s sister Theresa Neisler McKeithan of Lake Waccamaw shared her sibling’s obituary on social media today.
“Her summers were always spent at Lake Waccamaw, where her love for the outdoors flourished,” the obituary from Harris Funeral Home read. Neisler was an avid angler, a master beekeeper, and enjoyed water skiing and swimming. Neisler “took pride in creating natural healing remedies and finding beauty in god’s creation everywhere,” the post said.
Neisler was preceded in death by her parents and husband, and is survived by her siblings, three children, four grandchildren and her beloved dog Lager.
Services will be held Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, King’s Mountain.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Western North Carolina Assistance Alliance.
