An early morning wreck in Tabor City claimed the life of a Holly Ridge man.
Phillip Ray Grant, 60, crossed the center line and struck a commercial vehicle head-on just before 5 a.m. on May 5. A Tabor City police report showed that Grant was heading east on U.S. 701 when the crash occurred.
Grant was driving a 2006 Toyota automobile that collided with a 2024 Freightliner owned by Black’s Tire. Ricky Arnett, 58, was heading west in the truck. Both vehicles were traveling 50 miles per hour, and there were no skidmarks to indicate Grant tried to stop. Both vehicles came to rest in the roadway.
The report said that Grant was transported to Loris Hospital, then transferred to the trauma center at Grand Strand. He died the day after the crash.
Arnett was not injured in the wreck. The Toyota was demolished, and the truck sustained roughly $2,000 in damages.
