Suspect Gets Wakeup Call by Police

John Henry Thomas (CCSO Detention)

Tabor City Police had to wake up a break-in suspect Saturday before taking him into custody.

John Henry Thomas, 81, 0f 130 Oxford Village Apartments, Tabor City, was charged with breaking and entering and drug paraphernalia. He was held on a $1,000 secured bond.

TCPD Ptl. T. Garner reported that he and Lt. McKeithan were sent to a School Road home just before 8 p.m. after a call about a break-in. The property owner was waiting outside in her vehicle, the report said. The woman told officers she thought someone was inside the home.

The front door of the home was unlocked and open, the report said, and officers found Thomas on the floor in a back bedroom, asleep. A crack pipe with drug residue was on the floor near Thomas’ Social Security card, the report said.

Thomas was taken into custody, and the owner of the property said she did not recognize him. She also told officers that a number of items in the yard were not hers. The report said two window air conditioners, two new air fryers and a reading glass case were found in the yard, among other property.

The property was taken to the Tabor City PD while officers attempt to contact the owners.
