Municipal filing opened Monday for the November elections. Lake Waccamaw has a three way race for mayor, while some towns have had no one file for office as of closing time Tuesday. Filing runs through July 25.

If your Class C driver’s license has expired, you have a two year grace period courtesy of a new law. Chronic backups at DMV license offices statewide led the General Assembly and Gov. Josh Stein to agree on the move. You may continue to drive within North Carolina if your license expires between July 1, 2025 and Dec. 31, 2027. The law does not apply to revocations or commercial licenses.

Ten people including two children were hurt in a chain reaction crash in Whiteville Sunday. WPD said a Dodge truck collided with the rear of a minivan on JK Powell Boulevard at Oliver Street, pushing the van into another vehicle, which in turn struck a fifth car, which collided with a Tesla. The two children were airlifted to UNCH with critical injuries.
